Hi everyone, welcome to Like A Backpacker and the site's first featured post!
So, who am I? My name is Teddy, I am a primary school teacher from Ballarat in Victoria, Australia. I have left my teaching position to travel the South American continent for as long as my budget can last – which is hopefully a long time! You can read more about me on the about page.
So what can you expect to see on the site this year? Well, on February 5th 2013 I arrive in Santiago, Chile, where my trip begins. I plan to head south over the next few months, taking in the beautiful south of Chile, the pacific coastline and the deep south national parks including the Torres Del Paine, featuring on my bucket list (link).
After Chile, I plan to head north into Argentina and cross by bus up to the thriving European style capital, Buenos Aires. After a couple of weeks taking this in (and hopefully a trip to world heritage listed Iguazu Falls) I then plan to head north into Bolivia, followed by Peru and the famous Inca Trail.
After Northern Peru, I'm making my way into Colombia (apparently much more beautiful and much less dangerous than people think), finally crossing into Venezuela before finishing my loop in Brazil in time for 2014's festivities!
This really is my trip in a nutshell. In fact, I'm barely planned past the Torres Del Paine! Things are bound to go differently than according to plan and I'm sure that the unexpected twists will turn out to be some of the most exciting – or dangerous!
Along the way, you can expect to be kept posted via the website. I aim to include travel tips from a backpacker on the road, stories and photographs about the people I meet and of the places I visit along the way.
I'm looking forward to sharing these experiences with you, and hope you find time to share your comments in the space after each post.
Nos vemos!
Teddy.
